The CSSS hospital in Vaudreuil-Soulanges

On December 15, 2010, the provisional board of directors of the Fondation du CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges elected its first president in the person of Mr. Jean-Paul Régis.
The Foundation was officially created in December 2009. A specific section is dedicated to the future hospital of the CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, and Mr. Régis intends to give it priority as president.

VAUDREUIL-SOULANGES
Since 2010, the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges has been actively involved with the CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the City of Saint-Lazare, in the processes leading to identifying land to house the future CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital. Together, we carried out a series of studies and actions, according to ministerial objectives, in the hope that the hospital will welcome its first patients in 2018. Our studies have been completed and submitted more than a year ago to the ministries involved in the file. Since then, we have been waiting for the Quebec government to make a decision.
The region is developing at a great speed and less and less land is available to locate the hospital. The 23 mayors of the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges are of the same opinion as to the choice of the site of the future hospital.
Now, it is up to the Government of Quebec to take action and quickly choose the site in order to meet the 2018 deadline. Remember that the choice of land will not in itself mark the start of work since there will be other steps to complete, including new studies and zoning changes that will take place over a period of two years.
The regional hospital is far from being a luxury for us, but a necessity. Our needs for health services are already considerable and with the population growth we are experiencing, the problem will only increase. Vaudreuil-Soulanges is one of the only regions in Canada with a population of more than 100,000 citizens without a hospital. The needs for health services no longer even need to be proven.
Since the beginning, the citizens of the region have supported this essential project for our community and continue to demand the future hospital. The citizen committee that is mobilizing for the CSSS hospital in Vaudreuil-Soulanges is supported by a petition with 43,000 signatures.
Last March, Minister Réjean Hébert assured us that the site of the future CSSS hospital in Vaudreuil-Soulanges would be known at the end of April 2013. The deadline was not respected and we are increasingly worried that the future hospital will not open in 2018. On Thursday, following a conference call with Minister Hébert's political attaché, Pascal Lebel, the latter told us that the government has the firm intention of taking a decision by the end of July. It is now time for Minister Réjean Hébert to act, and that is why we are inviting him today to come and announce the choice of land on the very site of the future hospital, as soon as possible.

The CSSS hospital in Vaudreuil-Soulanges
In August 2009, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Yves Bolduc, together with the deputies of Vaudreuil, Mr. Yvon Marcoux, and of Soulanges, Ms. Lucie Charlebois, noted a region in full turmoil. He recognized, unequivocally, the immense health care needs associated with the rapid growth of our region. Indeed, according to demographic forecasts, the population of Vaudreuil-Soulanges will exceed 175,000 inhabitants in 2016.
Highlights:
- In December 2010, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Yves Bolduc, was on the premises of the CSSSVS to make the official announcement: Vaudreuil-Soulanges will have its hospital!
- In January 2011, the CSSS received authorization to initiate the development of the strategic presentation file, the initial stage of the framework policy on the governance of major public infrastructure projects.
- The strategic presentation file was submitted in November 2011 to the MSSS and a meeting with the Minister took place in December to take stock of the progress of the file. The minister said he was very pleased with the work done by the various stakeholders.
- The CSSS de Vaudreuil-Soulanges is still waiting for the decision of the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services as to the choice of land for the future hospital.
- The 2018 schedule for the opening of the hospital is maintained.
