The CAQ confirms that the future hospital in Vaudreuil-Soulanges will be built

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Danielle McCann, confirms that the land that will house the Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital is maintained. This decision, taken after the analysis of other potential sites and various consultations with partners, will make it possible to finalize the procedures related to this site and to continue planning.
In December 2018, the government announced that the choice of land selected by its predecessor was the result of consideration following the decision of the Montreal Metropolitan Community to reject the choice of land chosen. This decision resulted in several elected officials and a significant number of citizens rising up to denounce the situation. The people of Vaudreuil-Soulanges were unanimous. The need for a hospital in the region is a reality that cannot be circumvented.
Our desire in this case has always been to complete the project without additional delay, explains Danielle McCann, Minister of Health and Social Services. However, we wanted to take the time to meet all the actors concerned and to ensure that if we went ahead with this site, the work would be carried out in order to minimize environmental impacts and compensate for the loss of agricultural land. We are now certain of this, and I am very happy to confirm that the population of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the surrounding area will have access, in a few years, to a quality health facility that will meet needs and expectations.”
Since the announcement made on December 14, Quebec has assured that, together with regional and local actors, namely the MRC of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion, that an assessment has been made of all potential land for the construction of the new hospital.
The results of this analysis confirm that the site identified in recent years, despite the fact that it is located in an agricultural area, remains the most appropriate site to house the new hospital. At the intersection of highways 30, 40 and 340, it is easily accessible and offers the space required for the construction of a hospital of this size. This new assessment shows that the current site is the one that will allow the hospital to be built as soon as possible.
Ms. McCann indicates in a press release that the government and municipal authorities are making a concrete commitment to the population and actors involved in the protection of agricultural territories to create, with this project, a modern hospital that respects the environment and agriculture. In particular, initiatives will be developed to convert wasteland into agricultural land on the territory of the MRC, in order to compensate for the use of land on the current site. In addition, the local space around the future hospital will be used in particular for urban agriculture for vegetable and health purposes.
